Teams Playing the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl Feed Kids in Florida’s First Coast

Ahead of the 76th annual TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville on Jan. 2, the Kentucky Wildcats and NC State Wolfpack football teams packed bags of weekend food for Blessings in a Backpack. Both teams packed 500 bags of food each for the kids served by the Blessings in a Backpack First Coast Chapter.

The First Coast Chapter will distribute the bags, plus a toy, to food-insecure students who attend Hyde Grove and Seabreeze Elementary Schools and Mayport Middle School.

90,000 kids — that’s one in five — living in NE Florida are at risk of going hungry on the weekends. The First Coast Chapter is serving 4,823 kids this school year at 41 schools.
